Headless Figures

Recently, and almost accidently, headless figures have begun to inhabit my paintings. Ordinarily, the face of a figure acts as the focal point, but by removing it - physically chopping it off - the painting is skewed to focus on other details.

To remove the face is to remove the identity, rendering someone anonymous and unrecognisable. It is an abstracting technique that transforms the figure from a person into an object - which can be made up of colours and patterns with no obligation to represent reality.
